Activity that Counts

Prospecting is the activity to focus on as it is what gives you results.  As you prospect more, it will become more natural and comfortable to do.  As time goes on, hopefully it becomes an activity you look forward to and do on a regular basis.  It gives growth to your business.

I find that when I track my prospecting activity it helps me to see where I can improve.  If I am making calls, I will note the number of dials I make and the responses I receive.  I keep a tracker sheet at my desk so I can mark the dials and the number of voicemails left, voicemails reached, callbacks, bad numbers, people  not interested, people interested and people reached.  Often I will hear a lot of voicemails, but I like to see how many interested people I reach in terms of live dials.  It will vary day to day.  It is also important to know how many dials I may need to make to find the number of interested people I am looking to talk with.

In upcoming posts, I’ll expand on how I prospect by phone and share some tips that have worked well for my team.

The Power of Your Words

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” ~ Leo Buscaglia

I recently came across this quote which I then shared on Facebook.  I find it to be true.  So often, a smile, a compliment or an act of kindness can make a great impact on the life of another person.  It may not even take long to do, but will be remembered by the person you did it for.

I’ve found that if I make an effort, I can look for ways to help people I know and encounter.  Sometimes I may not be able to help them directly, but indirectly I can.  In these instances, it is likely that I may know someone who could help them.

What can you do today to make an impact on the life of another person?  It’s worth the time it takes and I expect you will be glad you did so.

Affirmations

What are you telling yourself on a daily basis?  It makes a difference to feed your mind with positive thoughts.  Affirmations are short positive statements that should be repeated on a regular basis.  These affirmations may be about how you feel, what you will accomplish or what goal you will reach.

You can also surround yourself with affirmations by writing these statements and placing where you will see them throughout your day.   Attach it to your computer screen.  Place one on your refrigerator.  A clever idea I heard recently is to write the affirmation on your bathroom mirror with a dry erase marker.

One of my mentors, uses affirmations on a regular basis.  His children are so used to hearing him say  “I am doing great”, that their response is  “We know you are great.”  That is a nice way to have your children perceive you.

Use the power of affirmations in your life and be ready to see the results that come your way.

How to Find Your Team

Building a team is an important part of doing well in network marketing.  However, as you build your team you must continue to build yourself.  I’ve heard network marketing compared to a personal development journey and agree with that.  Personal development is vital to your success and the success you can guide your team towards.

So, a natural question to ask is, how do I find my team?  I believe the best way to find your team is to start with people who already know and trust you.  The concept of recruiting up is a strong one that provides better results.  I am always on the look out for sharp people who are coachable.  Ultimately, I am looking for people who have better skill sets than me.  I know this will provide the results I am after.

Don’t feel like you need results or a check to recruit up.  This is why you have a team to help you as you are introducing people to your business.  Use the people and tools you have.  Choose people to work with that you want to work with.  People you enjoy being around and would like to have the rewards network marketing provides for those who share what they do.  It’s so worth it and your friends will be glad you did too.  Just be sure to share in a professional way.  The relationship is most important and worth keeping regardless of their decision to join or not join your business.

The Power of Visualization

I had an interesting conversation today with a friend and one of the topics was the power of visualization.  The friend I was speaking with mentioned a book I should read titled The Power of the Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy.

My friend also shared about Cynthia Stafford who at the time was a single mother living in a dangerous part of Los Angeles.  She knew she needed to improve her life so she did so by reading books by Joseph Murphy as well as other authors.  As a result of her readings, she decided to use visualization and pictured herself winning $112 million in the lottery.  She kept this number with her and visualized how winning the lottery would change her life.  After four months of consistent visualization on winning $112 million in the lottery it became natural for her to think this way and believe it would become her reality.  As a result of her actions, in May of 2007, she won the California Mega Millions lottery of $112 million.

What are you visualizing will happen in your future?

Plan your way to success

I recently came across a quote from Antoine de Saint-Exupery that I think is worth sharing, “A goal without a plan is just a wish.”  I’ve found this to be true in my business.

My best lesson in setting goals came from my high school cross country coach, Coach Edwards.  Before each race he would have us set 2 goals, one for our time and the other for our place.  He also encouraged us to visualize reaching our goals.  Our goals were kept in public view in his classroom.  It was neat to have a record and to chart our progress.  It was a great lesson in goal setting and visualization.

Be sure to put plans to your goals so that you move towards them and they become more than just wishes.

Your Why

Prior to entering the field of network marketing, I had never been asked “What is your why?”  Or in other words, why are you a network marketer?  I’ve since found it is an important question to ask each person I work with as it allows me to help them move toward their why.  Just as important as knowing and reminding them of their why, is helping them to connect emotionally to their why.  As I once heard at a training, your why should be so strong it brings you to tears.

I know my why.  I’ve connected emotionally with my why.  I help each person I work with to do the same.  My why is in front of me while I work.  I can visualize my why.  I know through network marketing my why will become my reality.  It’s my goal to coach as many people as I can to turn their why into their reality and to do the same for their team.

What are you feeding your mind?

I’ve found that feeding my mind is just as important as feeding my body.  Just as our bodies need food and water to function, our mind is empowered by the information we give it.  I’ve made it a habit to end my day by reading a chapter of a personal development book.  Doing this ends my day in a positive way and sets my sleep up to be productive also.  It’s become a time I look forward to and I know it is time well spent.

How do you view a crisis?

Our outlook is so important since it impacts how we view and react to what life brings our way.  It is insightful that the Chinese character for the word crisis can also be translated to mean opportunity.

Be a great story teller

In this industry, it is vital to know how to tell your story and how to tell it well.  When someone asks you what you do for a living, you want to have an answer that makes them want to know more about what you do.  Your story should create interest and curiosity.

For example, if you are a distributor for  a wellness company.  Instead of saying that you promote the number one vitamin, respond that you help people to feel more energy to get through their day.

Tailor your message to the person you are speaking with.  You would not want to tell a person without kids how your vitamin helps you to keep up with your toddler.  However, if you are speaking with someone who you know may feel like they need a cup of coffee to start their day, you can respond that by taking your vitamin before your breakfast you don’t need your coffee anymore.
